Race Issue in Othello

The Duke turns the same wording on its head when berating Brabantio for his behavior:

If virtue no enthralled beauty lack,

Your soninlaw is far more than fair than black (I.iii.326-328).

Images of blackness and darkness are practically used in common conversation to indicate virtuallything bad, frightening, or evil, and this same attitude is directed at the blackness of Othello by dint of various imagery evoking the idea that people at least believe anything or anyone so dark is alien and to be feared. Some shares of this are evident in the opening of the indorsement act, where much is revealed about Iago and where much of the imagery evokes ideas bout quicken and blackness. The easy, bantering misogyny of Iago in Act II sight 1 of Othello lays some of the groundwork for the tragedy to semen. This slam barely suggests that Othello is resented not just for his blackness entirely because he is of a different social class, one that Iago sees as inferior, which makes him resent Othello's proficiency all the more. Iago appears to be attempting to amuse Desdemona and the others with his "fond paradoxes" but is genuinely revealing some of his true feelings about women. Race is always an element in the play, just beneath the surface. Othello is resented because he is black but tolerated by many because he is such a sure-fire general.

While some may view him as a dark figure, in truth he is necessarily an absolved compared to a manipulative individual such as Iago.

The scene begins as one of expectation and waiting, and it should take place on a street overlooking the sea as the gentlemen of the urban center wait for news of the war. This is also the place to which Desdemona will come knowing that Othello will land and pass this way. We see the utter in the background, but it is dark and stormy, the storm that prevents the Turkish exit from continuing the war. The dark conditions of the storm in the distance should conduce to the edgy mood of those on shore as they watch word and then as they wait for Othello to disembark. There is some contrast to be made between the storm that saves the urban center and the rejoicing that Othello orders, and darkened conditions in the distance should cast a slight pall over the order to rejoice, since we know that Iago has plans
