Direct Method and Communicative Approach

versatile methods and approaches are applied by teachers who want their lessons to be effective, do and attention-grabbing. Therefore two well-known methods I have elect for comparing and analysing will be discussed in this article, but in the first place passing on to contrasting of the above methods, it is better to feast overall information about both of them.

Direct method which is also called Natural method was established in Germany at the beginning of the XX th century. The main purpose of this technique is rejecting grammar-translation approach, thinking directly in the target voice communication and refraining oneself from employ native language. According to this method, acquirement of writing and spelling should be delayed for a certain period of time until the encyclopedism of a good oral proficiency.

Communicative approach was developed in the early 1970s. The principal aim of foreign language teaching is to communicate with language. Meanwhile, communicative approach is the efficient government agency to achieve this goal. Communicative approach is applied because grammatical competency and lexical knowledge are not enough to modify students to operate efficiently in target language.





There are a set of diversities between these two methods:
1. While in Direct method teacher acts like a collaborator of students, in communicative approach the teacher is a facilitator of the students. For instance, the teacher may also be involved in the activities in DM (Direct method), but in CA (Communicative Approach) the teacher in general leads the class when giving tasks and activities to carry out.
2. In DM learning occurs naturally and in CA learning is a summons of creative construction and involves trial and error.
3. In DM the almost important skill is listening, whereas in CA it is speaking.
